Colorado's autumn weather has a winter speed bump ahead, as a Pacific storm system brings a chance of snow and subfreezing temperatures to Denver this week.
The city should continue to enjoy high temperatures in the mid-70s Monday and Tuesday, and the mid-60s Wednesday, before a cold front bears down on the Front Range.
As temperatures cool into the 30s in the city Wednesday night, a 20 percent chance of precipitation could leave a dusting of snow on city streets, according to the National Weather Service.
A slight chance of cold rain or light snow extends through Thursday, with an afternoon high of about 51 and an evening low of 31, forecasters said. There's also a slight chance of snow Friday, when the high might reach only 41 degrees, with a low of 24 before midnight, forecasters said.
Temperatures will rise to the mid-40s by Saturday in Denver and the mid-50s Sunday, according to the extended forecast.
The northern mountains could see isolated or scattered snow showers above 10,000 feet as early as Monday and Tuesday nights, with snow increasing Wednesday and continuing through Friday, forecasters said.
"Moderate snowfall accumulations are possible over the northern mountains with the southern mountains unlikely to see much impact," the National Weather Service stated. Overnight lows in the 20s are expected in most of western Colorado on Thursday and Friday nights, with a low of about 15 Friday night in Aspen.
